Grown in Detroit
GROWN IN DETROIT fruits and vegetables are grown by families and youth in community gardens and urban farms throughout Detroit, Highland Park and Hamtramck. These gardens and farms beautify the streets, improve property values, build relationships between neighbors and reduces crime. The fruits and vegetables grown in these gardens are produced without synthetic chemicals, pesticides, fertilizers or Genetically Modified (GMO). These sustainable farming practices benefit the environment by building healthy soil and promoting clean water and air. The growers use careful handling practices before and after harvest as well.

Slow Food’s philosophy is stated: “Slow Food is good, clean and fair food. We believe that the food we eat should taste good; that it should be produced in a clean way that does not harm the environment, animal welfare or our health; and that food producers should receive fair compensation for their work”.
